Duncan joined TMS in 2002 as a Senior Engineer and has more than 25 years experience in the field of Road Safety Engineering.  Prior to joining TMS in 2002, Duncan worked for Warwickshire County Council for 24 years.

His roles at Warwickshire County Council included;

Transport Planner, responsible for carrying out all aspects of transport planning from simple transport assessments to the cost benefit analysis of major highway schemes (6 years)

  • Team Leader, School Crossing Patrol Service, responsible for ensuring continuity and safe operation of the service (2 years)
  • Team Leader, Traffic Survey Team, responsible for organising all forms of traffic survey from simple automatic counts to complex origin and destination surveys (3 years)
  • Team Leader, Road Safety Engineering Team, responsible for programming and delivering collision investigation studies, collision remedial schemes and Road Safety Audits (13 years)

At both TMS and Warwickshire County Council, Duncan has gained wide experience in the investigation, design and monitoring of accident remedial schemes including cluster sites, route studies, mass action sites and area-wide traffic calming schemes. He is also Course Director for the TMS/RoSPA Road Safety Engineering Courses and a Transportation NVQ Assessor.

At TMS, Duncan has delivered over 300 training courses covering all aspects of traffic engineering, from collision investigation to disability awareness.  He has also carried out over 350 road safety audits at all stages of major and minor schemes in the UK.  In addition, Duncan has carried out numerous walking routes to school assessments for local authorities throughout the UK.

Duncan has extensive experience in delivering training courses and carrying out overseas road safety projects in various countries such as the UAE, Oman, Hungary, Belgium and the Republic of Ireland. He holds a Highways Agency Road Safety Audit Certificate of Competency as well as delivering the Highways Agency approved Certificate of Competency Training Course for TMS.

Outside of work, Duncan is interested in all forms of motor sport (particularly rallying) and watching Leicester Tigers play rugby.
