Advanced Road Safety Engineering


This is a two-day non-residential course designed for qualified Road Safety Auditors who wish to gain their annual 2 days CPD required throughout the UK in order to continue to undertake audits on trunk roads and motorways. The course is also suitable for any road safety professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of road safety engineering issues.

Ideally candidates will either have attended the RoSPA Road Safety Engineering Course (10 day or Modular), or will have worked in this field for at least two years.

Course Aims:

  • To provide a learning environment in which delegates and tutors can share information in an open and relaxed manner
  • To increase delegates' knowledge and skills in recent road safety engineering issues
  • To encourage participation in a range of challenging workshops where delegates are stretched in the application of their road safety engineering and audit skills

Topics Covered:

  • Workshop comparing Design Standards and Collision Records to define "safety problems"
  • Collision investigation of a key research issue - workshop looking at data to determine whether safety auditors are "getting it right"
  • Safety issues for people with sight impairment including site visit to shared space with a registered blind person
  • Current issues with HD 19/15, including a review of analysis of how Safety Audit reports are being written
  • Safety Audit visit and report writing workshop
  • Certificate of competency discussion
  • Cycle safety issues and workshop


Delegates completing this course will receive a RoSPA 2 day CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT
