A look back at 2019

A look back at 2019

TMS have had a very busy year across all sides of the business.  We have carried out an extremely high number of Road Safety Audits during 2019; with over 750 audits carried out for clients all over the UK.  There has also been a noticeable upturn in road safety audits carried out on major highway schemes on the trunk and motorway network for Highways England, Welsh Government, Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and Transport Scotland.

During 2019 we also experienced an upturn in our consultancy project work, with the Technical Team involved in a variety of road safety engineering schemes such as Road Safety Risk Assessments, Safety Assessments and Workplace Transport Risk Assessments for the following:

  • Karro Food Group – Workplace Transport Risk Assessment
  • ASDA, Stockport – Safety Assessment of Pedestrian Traffic Conflicts
  • Navigator Terminals Thames, Grays, Essex – Safety Assessment of Pedestrian and Cycle Route
  • Royal Bolton Hospital – Workplace Transport Risk Assessment
  • West Suffolk Operational Hub – Safety Assessment of Footway Options
  • University of Warwick – Safety Assessment of Multi Storey Car Park and Temporary Closure of University Road

With regards to our training, we have run over 100 courses during the year, which consisted of our popular open courses in Coventry and London and also our in-house training.  Our trainers have travelled all over the UK ranging from the Midlands, North Ayrshire and Kent to deliver in-house training to our clients.  We have also delivered our road safety training courses in Dublin and Malta.

We anticipate 2020 being another busy year at TMS and look forward to seeing what the New Year brings.

Wishing all of our clients a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Road Safety Inspection Training for Transport Malta

Road Safety Inspection Training for Transport Malta

In light of the recent revision to the EU Directive 2008/96/EC which now has more of an emphasis on vulnerable road users, TMS revisited Transport Malta in Lija in May 2019 to carry out some further training.

Back in July 2018, Nick Newton and Steve Proctor carried out two weeks worth of Road Safety Engineering/Road Safety Audit training for Transport Malta.

The training delivered was to give some additional tuition to those who will be undertaking Road Safety Inspections on Malta Road Network. The training proved useful as Malta prepare for carrying out their first Road Safety Inspections.  In addition, Malta are also in the process of developing their own cycle guidelines in terms of design.

Nick Newton was impressed with their enthusiasm towards Road Safety and worked with them to go through some of the challenges they face going forward. TMS have developed a good working relationship with Transport Malta and it is anticipated that TMS will assist training on road safety issues in the future.

Over 1,000 Highway Inspectors have now been trained by TMS

Over 1,000 Highway Inspectors have now been trained by TMS

TMS have now trained over 1,000 Highway Inspectors since the launch of its training back in October 2011.

Over the last eight years, TMS have delivered the course to over 1,000 Highway Inspectors from more than 40 different local authority areas, with many more courses already scheduled for 2019.

Since then TMS have also launched a two-day Highway Inspectors Refresher training course which is intended for Highway Inspectors who have completed the initial Highway Inspectors’ course within the last five years and want to renew their qualification for a further five years.

The two-day Refresher course is becoming increasingly popular, as it allows Local Authorities to ensure their staff are fully competent and aware of the process and procedural changes within the industry, since their previous training.

TMS are an approved Centre to provide the following training courses:

Highway Safety Inspectors’ Modular Training (4 day course)

Highway Safety Inspectors’ Refresher Training (2 day course)

Our Highway Inspectors training is available as an open course or in-house, at a venue of your choice.  In-house courses are a very cost effective way of training your staff.  We can train up to 12 people at any one time.
